Sage’s new CEO, Pascal Houillon, announced last week at the Sage Summit Conference Keynote address that Sage will be dropping its existing brand names, such as Peachtree, MAS90, Timberline etc. Peachtree will probably become known as Sage 50.
While the news came as an initial shock, from a marketing stand point, I am excited that Sage will finally be able to spend advertising dollars that touch all products. We will now be able to compete with the number one ADVERTISED small business accounting program! It isn’t that QB is a better small business software package that it holds the #1 spot, it is just the most advertised product.
Just think, with extra advertising dollars and a strong Sage name, Sage 50 Accounting 2013 could end up being the most sought after small business accounting program on the market.
With consolidated marketing efforts, the Sage name will become as strong as Microsoft. When you hear of Sage products, you know the name and trust the software.
If you recall, the old Peachtree program did not have the best image. It was touted as being an “accountants program”. The new Peachtree program since 2007 has been fighting that poor image for over 5 years. Many old users will not even look at the new program because of their poor experience from the past. The old Peachtree with its “not user friendly” image can now fade as we introduce the new easy to use Sage 50 Accounting – “First”, “Pro” “Complete”, “Premium” and “Quantum” software line.
As for existing customers they will easily move to the new product line so Sage won’t have to to resell them on the product. But best of all, this will give Sage a great way to introduce the product to those that would have never LOOK at Peachtree in the first place.
I am eager for the new opportunity to work with Sage as they realign the product names. Microsoft did this with Dimensions and a bunch of other old products why can’t Sage? Let’s go sell some software and put Sage 50 Accounting back in it’s old #1 Spot of being the best selling small business program on the market today!
